Intro[edit]
Japanese
21世紀、マグニートに率いられた悪のミュータント軍団は世界征服を企んでいた。
彼らのパワーの前では、人々はなすすべもなかった。
残されたただひとつの希望、それがX-MENだった。
English
In the 21st century, an evil mutant army led by Magneto plotted world domination.
Before their power, there was nothing people could do.
The only one hope that remained... that was the X-Men.- TODO — すべ
- TODO — exact role of ただ here
Professor X has been kidnapped![edit]
Professor X
Japanese
我々はマグニートの奇襲を受け 捕えられてしまった。
だが、奴らの基地がアイランド-Mにあることをつきとめた。
基地を破壊せよ!
English
We were ambushed and got kidnapped.
However, I've discovered that their base is on Island M.
Destroy the base!- せよ is one of the imperative forms of する. The usual conversational imperative is しろ, but せよ is used when giving a military-style command.
Rescue Kitty![edit]
Professor X
Japanese
キティを救出せよ!
English
Rescue Kitty!
Rescue the professor![edit]
Kitty
Japanese
プロフェッサーを救いだして!
English
Rescue the professor!
- This is a more polite imperative than 救い出せ, though not as polite as if ください were appended after 救い出して. Note that, though they have the same meaning, 救い出す and 救出する are completely different words! The former uses kun'yomi and the latter uses on'yomi.
Professor X?[edit]
Fake Professor X
Japanese
マグニートは向こうにいる! ついてこい follow!
English
Magneto's over there! Follow me!
It's a trap![edit]
Mystique
Japanese
ハハハ・・・・ 罠にかかったな!
English
Ha ha ha... you've fallen into my trap!
- かかる has a very wide range of meanings, so you may want to memorize 罠に掛かる as a unit.
Magneto's asteroid base[edit]
Professor X
Japanese
マグニートは小惑星基地からの地球攻撃を企てている!
手遅れになる前に奴の計画を阻止せよ
English
Magneto is plotting world domination from his asteroid base!
Put a stop to his plan before it's too late!
It was Mystique again![edit]
Professor X
Japanese
そいつはマグニートのにせものだ!
奴は他の場所にいる! 行け、X-MEN!
English
That's Magneto's impostor.
The guy's somewhere else! Go, X-Men!
- そいつ is equivalent to その奴, except nobody says その奴 because they say そいつ instead. We'd translate it as "that guy", which gives the rough connotation, except "guy" is inapplicable since Mystique is female, and "gal" is too overtly feminine.
